Washer is Leaking - Snap Supply

Washer is Leaking

There are many parts of a washer that can malfunction and cause the washer to leak. This is a common problem. Fortunately, it is a straightforward fix. Check out the parts below to find the common sources of leaking in washers, how to test them, and links to replacement parts to make the repairs yourself.

Inlet Hose

Check your washer’s water inlet hose to see if there are any visual signs of leakage. A damaged hose is one of the most common causes of a leaky washer.

How to Troubleshoot a Washer Inlet Hose:

  1. Disconnect the washer from its power source.
  2. Inspect the inlet hose - you will find it behind the washer connected to the main water source.
  3. Look for signs of leaks or damage from the inlet hose.
  4. If the inlet hose is damaged, you must replace the inlet hose.

Don’t forget: just because parts look the same does not mean that they are the same. Make sure to use cross reference information and model numbers to confirm compatibility with your washer.

Washer Drain Pump

Snap Supply Drain Pumps

As its name suggests, the drain pump is the part that removes the water from the washer tub during and before the spin cycle. If the washer is leaking, then the drain pump may not be pumping out water during and before the spin cycle.

How to Troubleshoot a Drain Pump:

  1. Disconnect the washing machine from its power source.
  2. Locate the pump - it will either be behind the front panel or cabinet.
  3. Remove the inlet hose to the pump.
  4. Inspect the hose and the pump impeller for any blockages, wear, or seizures.
  5. Remove any blockages or foreign objects that you encounter.
  6. If there is visible damage, or if the impeller is seized, you must replace the pump.

Don’t forget: just because parts look the same does not mean that they are the same. Make sure to use cross reference information and model numbers to confirm compatibility with your washer.

Water Inlet Valve

Snap Supply water valve

The water inlet valve controls the cold and hot water entry into the machine. If there is something wrong with the part, it could be the cause of leaking from the washer.

How to Troubleshoot Water Inlet Valves:

  1. Disconnect the washer from its power source.
  2. Disconnect the washer from its water source.
  3. Locate and remove the water valve from the washer - it is typically found behind the rear panel, around the hose connections.
  4. Inspect the screens inside the valve - if you find any debris or obstruction, remove them. Note: be careful when removing debris near the screens as they are fragile - if a screen is damaged, the entire valve must be replaced.
  5. Inspect the valve itself for signs of damage like cracking or wear.
  6. If your valve or valve screens are visibly damaged, then the valve must be replaced.

Don’t forget: just because parts look the same does not mean that they are the same. Make sure to use cross reference information and model numbers to confirm compatibility with your washer.

Door Boot

Snap Supply Door Boot

On front loading washers, the door boot creates a seal between the washer tub and the door. After repeated use, it’s common for these parts to crack or become ripped. In cases where the washer is leaking from the door, it is typically the door boot that is responsible for this leak.

How to Troubleshoot a Door Boot Seal:

  1. Disconnect the washer from its power source.
  2. Locate the door boot by opening the door.
  3. Inspect the door boot for visible damage like cracks and tears. You should also look for buildup of dirt or detergent that could be preventing the door beat from creating a complete seal.
  4. If you find any of these problems are affecting your door boot, you must replace it.

Don’t forget: just because parts look the same does not mean that they are the same. Make sure to use cross reference information and model numbers to confirm compatibility with your washer.
