Finding the Correct BBQ Igniter - Snap Supply

Finding the Correct BBQ Igniter

The warm weather is finally here, and summers is quickly approaching us. With nice weather comes family BBQ’s almost every weekend. Or making a quick dinner on the grill during the week for your family. Grilling has essentially become a tradition for many families over the summer. However, is your BBQ igniter ready for the season? Don’t worry, we have a few tips for you to determine if you just need a new battery or a replacement igniter.

Grills can be expensive to replace constantly. If you find yourself pushing the igniter button on your grill and your grill does not light, there is no need to panic. Your family cookout this weekend won’t have to be replaced with a frozen pizza night. First thing to check is to see if the battery is working properly in the igniter. Remember, when checking your grill, make sure to turn off the gas. Remove the igniter button to expose the battery. (See picture below)

It is recommended to remove the battery from the igniter after every use or after BBQ season is over. This helps prevent the igniter from getting damaged. Replace the old battery with a new one. Attach the igniter button back, connect the gas, and check to see if your igniter lights the grill. If you find this still does not solve the issue you may need to replace your igniter. Luckily, replacing an igniter is a quick fix.

An easy way to finding the right BBQ igniter is by doing a model lookup of your grill. Doing a model lookup will allow you to purchase the correct igniter your grill requires. Each BBQ igniter is different and can change in size depending on the type of model and brand (Charbroil, Brinkmann, Grill Chef, Grilmaster, etc.) you have. If you are unable to find the model number to your grill, try your user manual. The guide sometimes has replacement instructions and will tell you the type of igniter you require.

If you can’t find the model number or the user manual to your grill there is no need to fear. If you’ve done any internet research, you’ll find that a lot of BBQ igniterslook” the same. However, they are very different and not interchangeable. The best way to determine what igniter you’ll need is by counting the number of wire outlets on the back of your current igniter. (See photo as example)

Depending on what igniter you require you’ll find some BBQ igniters with three outlets or even six. Keep in mind that if your igniter requires three outlets and you purchase an igniter with four outlets there is a chance the igniter will not work, or your grill will not function properly.
