Before starting any appliance repair:
- Unplug the refrigerator from the power outlet.
- Shut off the water supply to the refrigerator.
- Wear gloves and have a towel or small container ready to catch any remaining water.
- If needed, move the refrigerator away from the wall for better access.
Tools You May Need
- 1/4" or 5/16" nut driver
- Phillips screwdriver
- Adjustable wrench or pliers
- Towel or container (to catch water)
- Work gloves
- New hose washers (optional but recommended)
1. Locate the Inlet Valve
The W10853723 water valve is usually located at the lower rear of the refrigerator.
Remove the lower rear access panel by unscrewing it with a nut driver.
2. Disconnect the Water Line
Use an adjustable wrench to disconnect the water supply line from the valve.
Be prepared for a small amount of water to drain - use a towel or container.
3. Disconnect the Wire Harness
Carefully disconnect the electrical connectors (usually a clip-on harness) from the valve.
Take a photo before removal for reference during reinstallation.
4. Remove the Old Valve
Unscrew the mounting screws securing the old water valve.
Disconnect any plastic tubing attached to the valve and note their positions.
5. Install the New W10853723 Valve
Attach the plastic tubing to the correct ports on the new valve.
Most valves are color-coded or labeled (e.g., 'ice maker,' 'water dispenser').
Secure the valve in place using the mounting screws.
6. Reconnect Electrical and Water Supply
Reconnect the wire harness to the new valve.
Reattach the water supply line and tighten with a wrench (hand-tight plus 1/4 turn).
Check hose washers and replace if worn.
7. Reassemble and Test
Replace the lower rear access panel.
Turn the water supply back on.
Plug the refrigerator back in.
Check for leaks at all connections.
Test the water dispenser and ice maker for proper operation.
Helpful Tips
- Label tubing if your refrigerator has more than two water lines.
- If your water dispenser or ice maker still isnt working after replacement, check the filter, solenoid coils, or
dispenser switch.
- This valve is not serviceable - if it fails again, replace the entire valve.
