The Importance of Using a Stacking Kit

The more space we have in our laundry room the better. For this very reason alone, many individuals have found themselves looking to purchase or have purchased a stackable front load washer and dryer. These laundry appliances have turned even the smallest of laundry rooms into a spacious area. There is just one key component to making these units stay in place when they are stacked, and that is a stacking kit! You may be asking yourself what a stacking kit is, it’s purpose, and why it’s important. That’s where we come in.

What is a Stacking Kit?

A stacking kit is used to stack your front load dryer on top of your front load washer. This kit sits between your washer and dryer. It ensures the safety of not just yourself but also your loved ones that come in contact with your washer and dryer. The stacking kit works by distributing the weight of your dryer when it sits on your washer. While your appliances are in use the stacking kit absorbs the vibrations from your units. This allows both your washer and dryer to operate at the same time without the stacked dryer falling off your washer unit.

Please note that you should always stack your front load dryer on top of your front load washer. Your washing machine holds water when in use and makes your appliance heavier. As a result, your washer is more likely to fall even with the use a stacking it.

Why you shouldn’t stack without a stacking kit?

You may be asking yourself if you truly need a stacking kit to stack your front load dryer and washer. While you can stack your units without them, it is not recommended! There are many dangers that come with stacking your appliances without a stacking kit, or a rubber mat. For starters when your appliances are in use the vibration can cause your dryer to fall off your washer. This can be damaging to your unit, your floor, and the surrounding area. Another risk that you could face is having your dryer fall when opening the dryer door. This can occur when you open the door quickly, roughly, or simply over time. Something to be aware of is that some manufacture warranties might not cover damages if your dryer falls. This may not apply to all stackable front load dryers and washers, but it is something to look out for.

Can you use any stacking kit to stack your washer and dryer?

Unfortunately, there is not a universal stacking kits for all stackable washer and dryer units. There are different stacking kits out there, each designed to specifically to fit selected models for a specific brand like, Samsung, GE, Whirlpool, Bosh, etc. In some cases, some brands have multiple stacking kits specifically made for certain models. Meaning, if you have a stackable Whirlpool dryer and washer you can’t just purchase just a general stacking kit, but you must purchase the specific stacking kit made for that unit.  We understand that it may be tricky finding the right stacking kit that your units require, but that is why we are here to help.
