Stay Cool This Summer With Freezer Maintenance Tips

Another summer, another record breaking heat wave. The weather has been relatively fine for us here, but as summer marches on, things will certainly be heating up.

With that in mind, it’s definitely important to make sure that your freezer is running and cooling properly at the correct temperature.

In cases where your refrigerator and freezer are too warm, there are many parts that could be causing the problem. Most commonly, these parts include:

    • If this part is not functioning properly, the fan and the compressor will not run properly
  • Evaporator Motor
    • When the compressor is running, the evaporator fan motor circulates cold air throughout the refrigerator

    • If this part is not functioning properly, different parts of the refrigerator will be colder/warmer than others
  • Condenser Motor
    • Keeps the condenser coil cool by circulating air to remove heat

    • If this part is not functioning properly, then the refrigerator might be warming than usual because air is not being circulated
  • Defrost Heater
    • Responsible for melting the frost and ice that can form on the evaporator coils

    • If this part is not functioning properly, the evaporator coils can freeze over
  • Defrost Timer
    • Activates a defrost cycle at regular intervals

    • If this part is not functioning properly, the defrost heater will activate and terminate at irregular intervals, or it will not activate at all
  • Defrost Thermostat
    • Tells the defrost heater to terminate at a specific temperature

    • If this part is not functioning properly, the defrost heater will not activate
